Commercial Advisory

Where should the business go next?

We help businesses and stakeholders assess options, clarify priorities and make better commercial decisions.

Commercial advisory work is most valuable when a business has options, but not yet enough clarity around which direction deserves time, capital or attention.

The work may include

  • Business model review
  • Growth assessment
  • Strategic positioning
  • Operational review
  • Commercial narrative
  • Decision support

Venture Development

What would turn this idea into a credible opportunity?

We support early-stage opportunities as they move from concept, founder-led idea or emerging asset towards structured validation, partner discussion or dedicated project development.

Our role is to help early opportunities become clearer, more credible and better prepared before larger commitments are made.

The work may include

  • Opportunity review
  • Commercial pathway design
  • Validation planning
  • Stakeholder materials
  • Project structure
  • Investor or adviser readiness
What we work towards

Acquisition Strategy

Does the commercial case justify the commitment?

We assist with the early assessment of acquisition, investment and partnership opportunities before significant capital, time or negotiation effort is committed.

The work may include

  • Opportunity screening
  • Commercial due diligence
  • Business model review
  • Risk identification
  • Acquisition rationale
  • Operating considerations

Investment Readiness & Capital Strategy

What needs to be ready before the conversation?

We help selected businesses and ventures prepare for investor, partner or funding discussions.

Our role is to help opportunities become clearer, better structured and more credible before formal investment discussions progress.

The work may include

  • Commercial narrative development
  • Investor materials
  • Funding pathway planning
  • Data room preparation
  • Adviser coordination
  • Private stakeholder discussions
What we work towards

A coherent commercial narrative, organised materials and a plan for the advisers and discussions ahead.

James & Woods does not raise capital, operate an investment fund, provide financial product advice or make public offers of securities.

Discuss investment readiness

Before we talk

A few useful
questions.

Who is James & Woods for?

Owners, founders, family enterprises and stakeholders assessing growth, ventures, acquisitions, partnerships or investment readiness. The work is shaped around the decision at hand.

Can an opportunity be too early?

An early-stage idea can benefit from commercial review and validation planning. The useful question is what needs to be tested before it warrants a larger commitment.

Do you raise capital or provide investment advice?

No. James & Woods supports commercial preparation, investor materials, funding pathway planning and adviser coordination. We do not raise capital, provide financial product or investment advice, operate an investment fund or make public offers of securities.

How does an engagement begin?

Start with a brief description of your business, opportunity or decision, including any timing or practical constraints. The first step is to establish suitability and the work required. Any engagement is subject to an agreed scope and written agreement.

How does this fit with our existing advisers?

Our focus is the commercial question. Where legal, tax, accounting, financial product or licensed investment advice is required, we work alongside appropriate external advisers. The scope is agreed before an engagement begins.
